ISBN 1 871997 17 8 The overall objective of this report is to investigate the levels of dose and image quality in mammography in the NHSBSP, the extent to which there are variations and the underlying causes of these variations. In order to assess the image quality across the NHSBSP, while minimising observer error and variations in technique, measurements on a sample of mammography systems across the NHSBSP have been undertaken by one team of physicists using a single set of test equipment. This report presents the analysis of mammography systems throughout the UK. The findings are summarised in part A for the general reader, while greater detail is provided in part B.
