This publication was produced by a working party set up by the National Coordinating Groups for Equipment, Breast Screening Physics and Quality Assurance Radiologists. It sets out the clinical role of ultrasound scanners in the NHS Breast Screening Programme and reviews current equipment and radiological practice. A separate document Further revisions to Guidance Notes for Ultrasound Scanners used in the Examination of the Breast, with Protocol for Quality Testing MDA/98/52 has been published by the Medical Devices Agency.
