NHSBSP Pub. No. 33ISBN 1 84463 016 1 - Published June 2005 (second edition) The aim of this document is to specify the scope and standards for medical physics services which are to be employed in the NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP). It updates earlier guidance from the NHSBSP published in 1995 and is directed at both commissioners and providers of medical physics services. The document deals primarily with those medical physics services concerned with the quality assurance of x-ray mammography systems, as this is the major area of medical physics involvement of the NHSBSP. Some other aspects, such as quality assurance of ultrasound equipment and radiation protection advice, are also covered. It is recognised that medical physics services may also be involved in other ways, for example in electrical safety testing. Whilst these activities are outside the scope of the document, it is recommended that they conform to the same quality philosophy. |
