Since then there have been a number of changes in practice that warrant inclusion in these updated guidelines. Most units have now moved from fine needle aspiration for cytology to automated core biopsy as the method of choice for non-operative diagnosis. The guidelines also include recommendations on the indications and use of vacuum assisted mammotomy reflecting the increasing use of this method in many screening assessment units.
