The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 states that it shall be the duty of every employer to ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare at work of all their employees. Equipment should therefore be checked for electrical and mechanical safety in addition to being subjected to radiation safety tests.

The NHS Breast Screening Programme National Coordinating Group for Equipment strongly recommends that the guidance given in this document is acted upon.
