ISBN 1 871997 02 X The aim of this document is to specify the scope and standards of medical physics services which are to be employed in the NHSBSP. It is directed to both purchasers and providers of medical physics services. The document deals primarily with those medical physics services concerned with the quality assurance of x-ray mammography systems, because this is the major area of medical physics involvement of the NHSBSP. Some other aspects (radiation protection advice, quality assurance of ultrasound equipment) are touched on briefly. It is recognised that medical physics services may also be involved in other ways, for example electrical safety testing. Whilst these activities are outside the scope of this document, it is recommended that they conform to the same quality philosophy. UK Coordinating Group for Breast Screening Physics.
