NHSCSP Publication No 6 - ISBN 1 87 1997 82 8 - published April 1997 Part 1: Evidence-based Criteria for the Content of Letters and LeafletsPart 2: Evaluation of the Content of Current Letters and LeafletsThis document describes the findings of a research project undertaken by Dr Joan Austoker and her colleagues at the CRC Primary Care Education Research Group. The project was in two parts: the first examined the available research evidence about presentation of content of written information sent to women about the Cervical Screening Programme. This research evidence was then used to develop a set of criteria for the issues which should be included in the letters and leaflets sent to women at the various stages of the screening process. The second part of the project was the evaluation of letters and leaflets in current use in order to assess how closely they match the criteria. Copies of NHSCSP publications are normally free of charge for staff working within the NHS, the voluntary sector and for healthcare students.
